Yolandra “Reneé” Smith is a therapist-in-training in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Pfeiffer University. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Capella University and is a member of the Capella University Chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. She is also a member the Pfeiffer University Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa, the International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society, as well as a student member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Reneé works with individuals, couples and families who are facing family/marital conflict, anxiety, depression, stress, emotional regulation, communication issues, family conflict, grief, infidelity, life transitions, racial identity, self esteem, spirituality, and sense of belonging struggles. Additionally, Reneé is a Certified Facilitator of Prepare/Enrich, an online assessment tool for premarital and married couples that helps identify areas of strength and growth and offers insight to cultivate healthy relationships.
The path of life experiences and having a natural ability to demonstrate genuine empathy for others have led Reneé to discover her calling to serve as a therapy professional. Reneé uses a therapeutic approach that is grounded in family systems theory with an emphasis on attachment-based concepts, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Structural Therapy, and Bowenian Family Systems Therapy where intergenerational patterns are explored. Working from a systemic theoretical framework, Reneé seeks to understand the dynamic that exists between people and within relationships and uses appropriate interventions to shift the dynamic to where needs are met, and connections strengthened.
Reneé has been described as kind, caring, nurturing, accepting, and positive; invested, present, and genuine. Reneé is known to have a calming effect on others and the ability to make others feel confident that they are being listened to and heard. Reneé is an empathetic, enthusiastic, and developing therapy professional who is passionate about the field of marriage and family therapy and the ways in which she will be able to support individuals, couples, and families in their work to achieve the self-improvement and healthy relationships they seek.
Reneé is an intern and cannot accept insurance. Reneé offers a sliding fee scale starting at $20/hour. All intakes are a standard $20 regardless of income level. Additional days/times available for meeting virtually, upon request, if you are unable to find an available time on her online calendar.
