Claire (Webb) Harward
Claire is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and graduated from East Carolina University after obtaining a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. Claire specializes in helping individuals, couples, and families overcome obstacles such as anxiety, depression, lack of connection in relationships, relationship conflict, and more. She has had extensive training in issues surrounding diversity and sexuality and makes creating a safe space for all clients a priority. Claire also spent a year working in crisis intervention helping individuals with suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, and trauma from sexual assault. She helped this population make a plan to stay safe and manage symptoms in a way that allows them to heal and maintain hope for the future. Additionally, Claire specializes in helping individuals with various presenting problems such as low self esteem, questioning their “next step” in life, family conflict, single parenting, adjusting to college, and healing through a break up.
Claire is passionate about working with couples and assisting them using a systemic, compassionate, and collaborative view of therapy. Claire uses the emotionally focused therapy model in addition to methods from the Gottman Institute to help couples identify negative patterns in their relationship and address underlying, painful emotions that are holding them back from having a secure and authentic connection. Claire specializes in communication problems and lack of connection, couples suffering from PTSD, couples adjusting to incarceration of one partner, and couples impacted by drug and alcohol addiction. Claire collaborates with couples in a way that encourages vulnerability and connection, and educates partners of healthier ways to communicate and express needs.
Claire’s focus as a therapist is to advocate for her clients’ relationship with self and others so they may leave therapy with the confidence to handle the challenges of life. Her priority is safety and trust with her clients as well as empathizing with no judgement so they may grow and freely explore their emotions. Claire deeply believes that authentic connection and vulnerability have the power to heal, and she is always striving to help individuals, couples, and families achieve this.
